With arid winter air and the radiators on full blast, my skin gets super dry. I don’t want to wash my face in a way that can dry it out more, so I turn to facial cleansing oil. It completely cleans the New York City grit off my face and leaves it lightly moisturized. You might shy away from smearing oil on you face, but if you use the right kind, it won’t clog your pores. Some good oils to use are jojoba, sweet almond and apricot kernel. My favorite way to use an oil cleanser is to press a very warm washcloth against my face, massage the oil on my face for a minute or two and then wipe with off with a very warm washcloth. I apply a light moisturizer afterwards.

If you’re interested in making your own, there’s an excellent macadamia and jojoba cleansing oil recipe from “A Green Guide to Natural Beauty,” by Karen Gilbert. If you’d like to really treat yourself, I highly recommendAustralian Scent’s Cleansing Stream. According to Megan, one half of the dynamic duo that make up Australian Scent, the oils they use are non-clogging and regulate the skin’s oil production. While the Cleansing Stream dissolves dirt and grime, it leaves leaves essential fatty acids to hydrate and nourish your face. And while your on the path to moisturizing heaven, you might want to try their fabulous Balm of Gilead.

Whatever you use for facial cleansing, try it and see if your skin feels softer and more supple. You might even glow!
